SAFETY

  • Do not distract the operator while the vehicle is in motion. Stand behind the line.
  • Do not bring firearms, knives, or weapons onto the vehicle.
  • Do not bring hazardous or flammable materials onto the vehicle.
  • Service animals must be harnessed, leashed, or tethered, unless the customer’s disability prevents using these devices or these devices interfere with the service animal’s safe, effective performance of tasks. Under all circumstances, any animal must be under the control of the owner.
  • If your bus has seat belts, you are encouraged to use them.
  • Please report suspicious or dangerous situations to the operator.

RESPECT

  • Respect your operator. A friendly greeting and a thank-you before you exit is kind and courteous.
  • Respect fellow customers. Keep cellphone conversations to a minimum and do not have loud or inappropriate conversations. Do not disturb others on the vehicle by swearing, playing loud music, or using disrespectful language.
  • Do not litter.

BOARDING AND EXITING

  • Wait until departing customers have exited before boarding the vehicle.
  • Have the exact fare, pass, card, or ticket and appropriate ID (if needed) ready before boarding the vehicle.
  • Allow people using wheelchairs to board first. Save designated front seats for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, or pregnant customers, and please give up your seat if necessary.
  • Check around your seat for personal belongings before exiting.
  • After exiting, wait until the vehicle has pulled away before crossing the street. Use caution walking alongside the vehicle, especially if it is moving.

ON BOARD

  • Keep aisles clear for safety, speed of boarding, and consideration of other customers. Fold strollers and grocery carts when possible.
  • Seats are for customers, not for personal belongings.
  • Items are limited to what can be carried onto the vehicle in a single trip. All carry-on items must be closed and secured for cleanliness and safety.
  • The use of smoke and vapor products is prohibited. Remember: Smoking on board buses is strictly prohibited by Connecticut State law.
  • Do not eat, drink or bring open containers on the vehicle.

  • Fold strollers/shopping carts before boarding and store them out of the aisle.
  • Keep your head, hands, and arms inside of the bus.
  • Shirts and shoes must be worn while on the bus.
  • Keep seats clean and place trash in trash cans.
  • Cooperate with your bus operator's instructions.

Safety First

Stand back from the curb when buses are pulling up. Buses make frequent starts and stops, so please stay seated, if possible. Use available railings and handgrips while standing or moving about the bus. Pay attention to your surroundings. In case of emergency, follow bus operator's instructions. Wait until the bus has stopped before moving to exit.

Holidays

A Sunday service schedule is operated on New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Regularly scheduled service operates on all other holidays.

The fareboxes have a screen showing important information such as the fare due, and allow you to select a day pass or transfer.

Choosing Your Pass Before you Pay

Before inserting any money, decide which pass you need:

All-Day Pass

  • Press the All-Day Pass button on the farebox
  • Next, insert your payment
  • For youth or senior/disabled passes, ask the bus operator before paying

Two-Hour Pass (Transfer)

  • Press the Two-Hour Pass button, then pay
  • Or simply ask the operator when you pay

Paying Your Fare
  • Insert exact change only (fareboxes do not give change)
  • Each All-Day Pass requires a separate transaction

Using Passes or Tickets

First-Time Use (Activation)

  • Insert your pass or 10-ride ticket into the slot
  • Make sure the magnetic stripe is facing down and to the right

Already Activated Pass

  • Swipe your pass across the top of the farebox
  • You can swipe in either direction
  • Keep the magnetic stripe facing down and toward you

Using the QR Code on Your Ticket

If you are transferring from a CTfastrak station or using a printed ticket:

  • Hold the ticket under the scanner
  • Scan the QR code at the red light
  • Listen for a tone confirming acceptance

Understanding Your Ticket
  • Two-Hour Passes are issued when you pay
  • express Passes allow travel across zones based on the fare you paid
    • If you travel beyond your zone, you’ll need to pay the difference

Important Tips
  • Fareboxes accept one ticket or pass per customer per transaction
  • Bus operators and fareboxes do not make change
  • Customers using senior/disabled reduced fares must show valid ID (such as a Medicare or state-issued ID)
